Hi there,

I have no electrical experience what so ever and don't understand the terminology.

Yesterday i change a single socket, all was fine for 24 hours then this evening i heard a popping noise from the direction of the new socket and the electric tripped, i turned it back on and checked the socket no smoke or burning smell and the appliance still worked 2 minutes later it made a popping sound again and the electric tripped. This time i unplugged the appliance and turned the switch off but half hour or so later another popping noise from same socket and electric tripped again.

I have now took the socket of and put wires back in ensuring nothing is exposed, twisted or touching. So far everything has since been fine granted its only been 30mins.

Do you think the issue will now be resolved or is there an underlying issue.

We have never had faults untill i changes the socket.

You either have a faulty socket outlet or have not terminated the cables safely/safely or possibly the cables are damaged.
If you have no electrical experience, then wise option would be to employ someone who has!

It might help him to stay alive though.
A politely written explanantion of why it was not sensible to do the work would be read and have more educational effect than calling him an idiot. Some poeple do not take any notice of posts that are rude and non-informative.

...but would you, Richard, fiddle with the gas with the same amount of knowledge?

I am still amazed that people think they can work on the electrics no matter what - and even when admitting "I have no electrical experience what so ever and don't understand the terminology".

Single socket, little room, little experience, I expect squished/nicked cable shorting to back box.

I suppose you have to start learning somewhere. When I was a lad you'd start off wiring plugs before you progressed to sockets. How many people nowadays could wire a 13a plug?
