Hi there,

We are looking at a terrace house that has had 6 walls removed across the first and second floor as well as a chimney stack removed. All building regs have been approved but I can't work out what's going on here. I assume the purlin used to rest on the chimney stack, but now it looks to be strutted to what I can only assume is the joists? There is a supporting wall underneath (see last picture) but it looks like the struts would go either side of that.

I know nothing about roofs, so would really appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers

Building Regs might have been followed (really?) but I honestly can't see Building Control ever letting that purlin through. Maybe someone is telling porkies. With that level of "craftsmanship" I'd definitely want to see what the trimmers around that Velux look like (beneath the cladding)

In other words purlins can't just be left that way

To me that looks like the builder's equivalent of leaving a car propped up on bricks
