I have a close coupled Vitra toilet and this morning the cistern is not filling. There is water going in but it's leaking straight in to the bowl. If I fill it using a jug it continues to leak but will flush.

Where do I start? It looks like everything is attached inside the cistern as there are no external butterflies to disconnect the cistern or isolate the water.

Sounds like the flush valve has failed, replace it like for like. Even though it might be a bigger job, install an iso valve, it will make it much easier next time something goes wrong, or rhe whole wc is swapped out.

Its a Siamp Optima 49 flush valve. It's a twist and lift out replacement. TBH, I wouldn't bother turning the water off to do the job as it will just run away into the pan while the valve is out.
Those back to wall pans are a pet hate of mine. There is no way to monitor condition of connectors or seals and the whole toilet has to come out for anything more than the most basic maintenance jobs.

On closer inspection of your 1st photo, there appears to be a significant crack in the cistern running down from the back left hand corner. I would check this out and watch out for it leaking. It may be though that due to the back to wall design, you may not notice a leak.

I think the crack is ok - it's doesn't go far and not all the way through.

I have replaced the Siamp Optima 49 flush valve and the cistern now refills without any leaks in to the bowl, but the refill rate is really slow. Is there an adjustment for the refill rate anywhere?

The Siamp fill valve probably needs a new washer.
You will need to turn the water off to do this. The washer is located under the knurled ring at the front of the valve. Pay special attention to the position of the short lever arm to make sure it goes back together properly.

Thanks - flush valve replaced and leaking stopped. Have ordered a fill valve to improve fill rate.
