Hi

We have a square Bay that is currently Mock Tudor & a bit tired & tatty.
Cement panels, framed by Wood.
Some of the Cement has crumbled.

I want to replace it with Wood & thought Reclaimed Scaffold Boards would look fantastic & be durable.

Given that Scaffold Boards don’t have Tongues or Grooves, would I need to apply Mastic or some sealant between each board or can I just nail them on?

Any tips?

Thanks!

Used scaffold boards would look rubbish, and new scaffold boards would shrink hugely after you had put them up.

I made a garden table top from scaffold boards, and cramped them up. There is now a 3/4 inch gap between each board

Hear what you’re saying about new boards shrinking, thanks!

Can’t agree with used boards looking rubbish. I’d sand & varnish them obviously. I’ve seen them used indoors & looking fantastic.

We did this quite cheaply. Is this the type of look your after.

Yours looks like a fantastic job!
I want to move away from mock tudor.

Attached is a pic of mine now & 2 examples of ideas I want to achieve.
Grey Window frames & Wood between.

Yep I see what you want to do. Have you looked at Etsy they specialise in wood cladding. Great product to work with loads of choice might give you some more ideas at least. Hope this helps.

Scaffold boards are normally untreated softwood/whitewood. They rot fast in damp conditions.

For exterior use, you're better off with either treated wood or a durable timber

I clad a shed with used scaffold boards as I got them free, but they are partly protected by the roof and a fence, and more importantly treated with coal tar creosote.
