I had some cowboy plasterers come and skim my room and long story short, my floorboards are caked with plaster dust. We've thought about hiring a floor/edging sander to restore them.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

It will wear off into dust when you walk on it. You will need a builders canister vac as it will ruin a domestic vac.

You can use a broad metal scraper to get most of it off, then a nylon scrubbing brush with water, sponging off the slurry. You will have to sweep and vac each time it dries as the dust will get into the woodgrain and joint cracks. Then damp mop in future until you get bored or it seems clean.

The fine dust will rise up through carpets but there is a tough paper you can put down.

Up to you to protect floor prior to plastering , it’s a messy trade .Clean and clean again , and again .
