Convert GoPro videos to play on Sony ST26i 'phone

Have tried for some time with conversions etc to get GoPro videos to play back on my Sony.
A clip transferred from my Win 7 Acer laptop plays well on the Sony, "Type of file"--VLC media file (.m4v).
Can any-one suggest if I'm doing something wrong please!

What video formats are supported by Sony ST26i phone? Definitely looks like .m4v is one supported. As another member has asked let us know the converter you are using.
 
OK. have converted some video, for use on Hudl 2, with GoPro Studio, these work fine. As Studio didn't work for Sony playback I tried Handbrake (Android & Android Tablet), Sony didn't "recognise" either.
 
Are there any settings in converter to write into a specific format? If there is try the .m4v format
