Cracks around window, lintel and through mortar

Hello,

Firstly, apologies if what I say doesn't make sense, I am a complete DIY noob.

I've noticed some cracks around my south facing windows, it's lintel and up through some mortar. I believe the lintel to be safe, but had a few sleepless nights worrying about these cracks!

I've attached some pictures to this thread. Could someone please suggest what I can use on these and put my mind to rest that my house won't tip over?

The cracks around the window and lintel are about 5-10mm wide. The cracks in the mortar going up to the window above are 1-3mm wide.

If I need to explain more or upload more pictures I can.

Its pretty common.

It may fall down, in maybe 100 years!

I'm sure my windows have lintels, as when fitting a new curtain pole in a back bedroom, I couldn't drill into the wall directly above the window.

Can I use any sort of exterior filler on this?

Why are those bricks a different colour? What work have you had done previously?

Can't confirm unfortunately, as property is my in law's who have both died years ago.

If no work has been done, what can cause the different colour? There is no evidence of damp in the house if it's moisture.

Can I fill the cracks myself with caulk in the brick/silicone round window?

Are they concrete or sand/lime or calcium silicate bricks by any chance? There is one where the paint has flaked off a corner that looks a bit suspicious.

Hi wessex101,

I'm afraid I don't know what kind of bricks they are. I did pick a small bit of paint away from a corner to try and see the crack more clearly. Not the best thing to do but I couldnt see how wide the crack was.
