Damp in Bay Window

Have lived in our house for around 3 years now, and this has got progressively worse every autumn/winter. Have had a couple people look at it, and they all say something different. Have topped up the sealant to the uPVC windows on the outside. House is semi detached, and around 100 years old. We have had loads of problem with damp on other walls, but think that is down to the outside wall needing repointing. Was hoping someone might recognise the patterns in the pics an know what it is! Have been told it's condensation... Any help much appreciated, so thanks in advance...

show us the gutter round the top of the bay, and stand back and show the whole of the bay, inside and out please, and the sill, outside, looking up and looking down.

Does it have a lead roof? or tiled?

ah, so that's the old stone sill.

Put a spirit level on it and see which way water runs.

I can't see a photo of the underneath of it. There should be a drip groove.

When a plastic window is put on an old stone sill, there is (should be) a gap, and drainage holes in the frame for water to escape outwards. Have a close look at yours for drainage holes. Have they been blocked?

You mentioned condensation. My first reaction was "condensation my asre"

But do you get streams of water running down the inside surface of the glass? where does it run to? Do you have a hot tub in that room? Or throw buckets of water at the walls? Or drape wet washing on radiators?

Tbh... No streams of water on inside of glass, and no hot tub (unfortunately). Can't see any drainage holes either. Not too sure exactly where to look. Taken some more pics. Thanks again for your help.

its condensation.
there might be other contributing factors such as penetrating damp but its still condensation.
maybe inspect the window boards first thing in the morning for excessive moisture.
or late at night after having kept a very warm room all day.

trickle ventilation and trickle heat are the typical ways of dealing with condensation.

fwiw: other issues show up in your photos.
if you are living in a damp house then perhaps extend this thread or start a new thread?
