damp on internal walls

in need of some help i live in a row of terrace houses 5 are brick built and the rest are stone . the brick ones have cellers round the back and the stone ones are round the front . the first stone house and at least 4 after have damp on the internal kitchen walls . need to know why but have no idea where to start

Some more information needed if possible please?

Can you describe the "Dampness" and is the appearance and pattern of "Dampness" appear uniform in all of the properties, also is it only the masonry properties that are suffering from dampness, have you any idea of what sort of masonry is involved?

Can you determine if the kitchen damp walls are in a near enough direct line with the wall of the Cellar?

Sorry for the Questions, who known some more will follow??

the dampness is in patches dosent always feel wet but when you cook in kitchen the steam makes the wall feel wet . our cellar is on the front of the house .its a solid floor in kitchen but its not just my house that has this problem both my neighbours walls are the same and 2 more houses on street . my next door neighbour had his wall replastered and its come back though
 
damp arising from steam is condensation. Turn on the extractor fan or open the windows.

Post some pics of the wall and indicate where the damp is.

Have you got a water meter?
 
no damp meter but the walls are dry at the moment the dampness is not caused by condensation . just marks on walls where it has been wet will put some pics on later

this is what its like in all my neighbours houses who live in the stone built houses on the same walls
 
I take it that the pics are showing one side of the same wall in the kitchen?
Whats on the other side of that wall?
Where did the neighbour have his wall re-plastered in relation to your kitchen?

To do a proper job it would be best to remove the rad and lift the skirting.
Examine the back of the skirting and the door lining for rot - probe the lining for softness.
Knock off all contaminated plaster back to stone up to a height of about one metre - as high as the old remedial line (where work was done to unsuccessfully attempt to deal with the damp).
Remove all the wallpaper.
And post pics.

After removing the skirting look for a solid floor membrane (DPM) showing behind the skirting?

How long have you lived there?
Are you certain that the pics show the only damp signs in the house?
 
its not just my house that has this problem so far its 5 in the street all on the same internal wall brae the back door no other signs of damp anywhere else in my home just that wall lived here 30 years and only been like this for about 8 years have redecorated but it still comes back my neighbours wall is opposite side of kitchen near his back door and so on down the street
 
Its damp coming up through the wall.

If its there all rear round and then it a leak from a pipe or drain. If it varies with the seasons or periods of rain, then its rising up the wall.
 
who do you think i should get in touch with to help with this as its most of the houses in the street that has it
 
Someone who is compentant to report on damp issues and does not have any connection with selling products to remedy damp problems.

A building surveyor normally. But one who can actually do a proper survey and not just reccommend other "specialists"
