Hi everyone, We have a damp patch under the dining room window. Started out small and is getting bigger. Appears when it is damp or raining and dries out when radiator is on. I have tried re siliconing the window in areas where it had looked to have come away and also repointed a couple of areas where the pointing had gone. It’s still there has anyone any ideas how else it’s getting in? It’s a sandstone cill on the outside (painted). Thanks

Damp can get in under the sill especially if there is no drip groove, it tracks back and saturates the brick, and moves through to the plaster inside. The repointing may work but there will be a lot of damp inside the brick that has to dry out. It is worth considering chopping out the damp plaster inside to aid the process.

Blup

Overlapping old Silicon with new is rarely effective.

Dig out all the Silicon and renew complete.

What’s the top of the window frame like, rain falls thru brickwork very easily so could be a problem above window, pics?

Show pic of under side of the exterior cill as well. The highest part of the water patch would indicate possible location of entry.
