DC v AC fan

I bought a 16" fancy fan of Amazon but the seller had two versions, DC and AC fan. I read in the reviews that the DC fan will consume less power, around 30 watts but the AC one will be about 50 watts and more powerful. How / why is that?
 
It depends on the motor used, brushed with wound field will work AC an DC, and often DC motors are really AC, look at your computer fan, often an inverter built in and really an AC fan. The main difference is how speed is controlled.
