Death by nitrogen

I disagree. Torture for the sake of bystanders gratification is disgusting.

If you're killing someone to deter others does torture really increase the deterrence?

If you're killing someone because they deserve it then death is the punishment, torture just wastes time on the way there.
The Japanese do it quietly discreetly.
US, RWR - classless morons that love their guns, death and vengeance.

You're still eating Russian dogs for breakfast?
Disgusting, is what it is.
Are you Korean?

You still eating yer Russian salad from the night before :ROFLMAO:

Are you a Russian ?

Have you ever owned a dog ?? What happened to it ??

Mother jailed for manslaughter her boyfriend with a violent criminal record has been jailed for the murder of Alfie Steele

Who was abused / tortured and eventually died

Torture included beatings and being held under water in the bath

Over 50 injuries on his body

Bump
Both of the cruel / sadistic / scum bags off

And good riddance to bad rubbish

The bloke would know pain / fear / terror before he departed this world her as well may be ?

35 years on death row. Must have cost millions in appeal hearings and keeping him all these years on The Row. And some daft idiots in the UK think the death penalty is a good idea.

Shmucks.
I don't support the death penalty, but I don't have much sympathy for a contract killer.

There wouldn't be any change in the physiology of death.

Speculatively, there would be some resistance by the prisoner - using the 'mask', you would hear and feel the compressed gas entering the mask (reports of hissing), and it would be cold - strapped to a trolley, with gas administered against your will, it is an experience that would be fought against.

The gasping reported later on, may be 'agonal breathing', he would probably have been clinically dead at this point.
Here is an (trigger warning: graphic!) example that is shown in some first aid courses...

I think there may have been more to it than the "body" "fighting" to survive after brain death...

"Nitrogen poisoning - Inhalation of very high concentrations can rapidly cause burns, spasms, swelling of tissues in the throat, upper airway obstruction, and death." Doesn't sound like a painless way to go.

@RandomGrinch I think you are correct.

A bit more research suggests it was the equivalent of suffocating him. He certainly didn't lose consciousness a few moments in to the procedure as predicted.

Afaik most of what we breath in is nitrogen ?

20% Oxygen to keep us alive

Replace that with nitrogen and death is pretty rapid

Nitrogen method has been used in voluntary euthanasia not with a mask though

It depends what you mean rapid.

Suffocating is pretty slow - 3-6 minutes for the average person.

All sounds about as sophisticated as a polythene bag over the head.

And in my opinion, that is probably (and maybe even deliberately) due to the theatrics of using the mask.
We've always been taught when dealing with cryogenic gases, that several breaths in an oxygen depleted atmosphere, maybe enough to render you unconscious, without warning.
Some of the warnings from the training may be overstated, but I try not to take any chances.

Well I was just going on what the bloke on the news said last night who invented the nitrogen pod for euthanasia

He said a nitrogen mask was a bad idea and gave evidence in the blokes appeal about it

Can’t see what all the hoo haa is about they could give em a jab that renders unconsciousness similar to what you get before an op in hospital

There after bump em off by what ever means ??
