Hi,

I have bought composite decking boards and facias to replace my existing wooden ones. Unfortunately after removing the boards and facias I’ve found all the 4″ x 2″ wooden joists at the edges are rotten so I’ve had to remove them. The decking is on an incline so the joist on the left rotted I assume because it was in touch with the ground. Is there something else I could use to prevent this in the future? Also there are various wooden posts embedded in the ground which keep the decking level. Again some at the edge have rotten. How would I go about replacing these or is there some other solution for this problem?

I don’t want to rip it all up and start again and thought I’d use as much of the existing frame as possible.

Thanks
