Diagnosing possible toilet leak?

That's not a bad idea, would it possibly stain the pan? I'd have to leave it for quite a while probably

Good to know! This is my first experience with plumbing and I've done my whole bathroom, and was happy that nothing leaked until this last piece! I guess I had to have one leak to teach me a lesson
 
It always is the last parts that tend to be head scratchers. If the glaze in the pan is good quality then it shouldn't stain at all, it will highlight a crack though.

I'm guessing a crack is quite an unlikely event. It was well packaged as far as I could tell. I certainly havent knocked it at all. I really hope its not the pan, as that would be very frustrating at this point!!
 
get the pan connector off and check the roundness , glaze and size of the outlet.
you may have used a connector too big for the spigot (they come in different diameters) or there may be some unevenness or roughness under the spigot.
 
Hi everyone, appreciate the help, no need to argue!

So to be clear, the spigot is the bit that sticks out of the pan at the back?

It was a very tight fit to get the pan connector on the toilet, it was not easy! So I doubt the spigot could be too small
