nice but how are you going to get the bark to stay on as I have found with things like that the bark falls off eventually

Has to be treated correctly, light brush , small gas torch to burn off any loose or flaking material , several generous coats oil .

In my experience usually falls off over time. Not going to affect the beauty of the piece if it does though

Very good work, Sir!
To prevent bark coming off, I spray it with hairspray several times before final finish.
A trick I learnt from my master many decades ago.

Do you give it a quick trim before applying the hairspray?

A brush off with steel brush, to get rid of loose bits, then a blast with compressed air, then hairspray, a few very thin coats.
