Hi all

I was wondering if some one could help with a roofing query. I recently had some photos taken of my house which show a patch of discoloured roof tiles. Please see photos attached - is there any body who has roofing experience and can let me know if this indicates any thing about the structural soundness of the roof and whether or not it would be best to get an assessment for possible repairs?

Thanks very much

Low quality screenshots of low quality images aren't very helpful. Can you provide a link or a file that is of higher quality?

That side wall must be a mess with the roof run-off.

As said, the phots are crap. The roof structure looks tired but that could just be the rubbish photo.

Go in the loft and see what's underneath it. You might find leaks.

I wonder if a disused chimney or something was removed, and the roof patched up with different materials.

Looks like whoever roofed your house used cheaper slate with iron pyrites in which are now rusting which is the discolouration you can see. Loads about it on the web if you search for rusty slates. This can be minor and just unsightly, or it can be much more significant and lead to the slates delaminating or forming holes. There is nothing you can do about it. You need to find a specialist roofer and get someone up there who knows what they are looking at to make an assessment.

The two sides of the roof look different colours.

I wonder if they used an original, or different, material for the side facing the road. Round here people sometimes use natural slate for the road side, and cheaper synthetic slate for the back of the house.

Rusting pyrites.. low grade slate used.. it'll get worse until a hole forms
Some of the other bits look like something nasty going on
