Dislodging an immovable plastic cap covering the screw in a window handle

I need to replace the handle on a uPVC window – something I’ve done numerous times before. This time, however, I cannot budge the plastic cap covering the screw in the old handle. I’ve tried everything: a knife blade, blaming Brexiteers, swearing, blaming Remainers, and even prayer. But that pesky plastic cap refuses to budge.

Any advice?

Stick a needle into it, under the lip and lever it out.

I’ll try a needle. Though I tried using a knife to lever off the cap. I got the blade behind the cap and started levering it, but the cap didn’t budge. I stopped when I thought the knife blade might snap.
