Dear friends,
recently got a bug from an attachment , had it fixed at computer shop, recently the images have become distorted, infact this ackground is justabout readable , the icons on the desktop arte very clear just that most other stuff has lost clarity including all internet stuff, however the prints come out fine , any ideas.
thanks technophobe

You dont say what OS you have. It could be the colour levels in the display settings, check them, you may find that you have 256 colors, which would explain the background colour problem, check your resolution too. More info would be a help :D

Dear friend,
Thanks for your quick reply, bit of a dimwit as far as compters , what is O S .
thanks steve

o s is operating system ie windows

if it is go to start>settings>control panel> display>settings

as for virus you should always have antivirus software no iffs or buts you can get a free one from here

It could equally be the Monitor.

Check the controls on the monitor for a button marked Degause, it may be marked as an inverted horse-shoe with a diagonal line through it.

Also, has the monitor recieved a substantial blow recently? Something heavy dropped on it, or the monitor banged hard in frustration? If it has then the monitor may be US as the tube may have a gas leak, and the change in internal pressure will cause screen distortions.

Check the D-sub cable that connects the monitor to the computer, ensure both ends are connected fully to the respective plugs, take them off, and re-seat them. If one is loose, that could also cause the problem your having.

Lastly, although a long shot, it could be the graphics card itself, this is unlikely, I have never heard of a card causing this sort of problem and I have never heard a virus that does this either, although the advice above about a virus checker is well founded and good..

Hi

From the title "Since Safemode", does this mean that you are booting to safe mode. If so, it is likely that you are looking at the screen in 16 colours, which would look pretty bad.

Can you determine which version of Windows you are using. Also, can you provide more details of the system you are using, such as graphic card type or, if it's a branded system, the make and model number.

Regards

Ig.

P.S

For gas leaks, see plumbing! Tubes contain no gas (unless they are knecked  )

Perhaps you should actually study the subject, then you would know that vacuum tubes for CRT's are filled with a very low pressure, a few hundred millionths of a Bar, with an inert Gas, normally argon.

If the tube were fractured, there would be no loss of any internal gas because the pressure inside is less than the pressure outside. Essentially a vacuum. When it breaks, nothing comes out, but air will leak in. The electrodes will arc noisily across the air gap and the picture will completely fail. It's quite difficult to smash the screen and the most common point of failure is the tube neck due impact shearing forces.

Nothing from the initial post would suggest a u/s monitor.

Agreed. Usually safe mode completely messes up the display settings. You should do what breezer says and set it to at least 16 bit colors (circa 65 thousand) for a clear picture with modern programs. If you are unable to do this, you need to find which graphics card you have, as you will need to reinstall the driver.
