I would like to avoid a locksmith but think it might be inevitable...
We have a uPVC front door with what I believe is an ERA VECTIS Single Spindle Lever Operated Multipoint Gearbox.
The mechanism has broken and the key simply turns in the lock and nothing engages.
The big problem is the door is currently locked shut. Thankfully we were inside when it happened and we have a back door we can use.
Is there any way for me to get the door open so I can replace the lock or do I simply need to get a locksmith out and face the bill?

Any and all advice welcome.
Thanks

I can't advise on the problem, but look on Facebook local comunity sites for reputable locksmith recommendations.

I haven't watched it with audio, but it looks like it may help you.

Thanks for the find! I'll was searching and searching YouTube! This is really helpful but frustratingly he has no commentary so it is mostly silent. I'll watch it a few times and see if I can figure out what he's doing with the screwdriver to open the lock.

If you have the fault he describes (I would guess the brass peg broke off when great force was applied to the key, for example if the door had sagged and the bolt was binding)

Insert the key

Turn it in an opening direction by 180 degrees, so the key is facing upwards
This will lift the levers to the unlock position

Insert a narrow blade such as a knife at the edge of the door, so it bears on the bolt, and lever it inwards.
It will only move a fraction at a time but I think it will not spring back

You can drill a hole in the lock case if you prefer
