Double switch 2 gang changing issue - bathroom/extractor fan

Hi,

Hope someone can help. I've been changing the faceplates in my bedroom and the double switch to our en suite has me stumped. It controls the light and the extractor fan however, the terminals are different.

I tried wiring the brown wires to L1s (notice 1 brown wire has to parts exposed (is this the loop and is why it goes into two different L1s?). The grey-sleeved wires I put into separate L2s. No cigar.

Any help would be great, cheers

Your old switch is basically layed out as two triangles, one upside down.
New switch has two triangles side by side. Old switch L 1 terminal is new switch Com.
Old L2 = new L1
Old L3 = new L 2
So swap like for like. If you did not mark the cables it makes it a whole lot more difficult !!

Each individual switch consists of three terminals.

If you didn't make clear notes as to where each wire went on the old switch, the fact that some wires have the ends folded over (which indicates only one wire in a terminal) makes working it out a bit easier.

It's even easier than that, all of the plain wires are connected together in both L1's and the 2 wires with sleeves go one each into the L2's on the original switch.

Put the plain browns into 'com' including the link between them and the sleeved wires into the L1's. if it works upside down use the L2's insted of L1's

Don't forget to put all the earth cables into the faceplate connection of the switch and not the white choc block.

My apologies for missing that, I thought it had been mentioned but I had been reading a similar thread.

It may be easier to add a link wire from the connecter to the earth terminal.
