Hi first time posting here.

I’ve started a barn conversation for myself to live in. (First time doing this and for my first home).

I need to double up the Purlins. From this diagram I assume the notch is out the Purlin rather than the Truss Rafter.

I’m really struggling to find a suitable/ figure out how to get a joist hanger in as well. I have put 2 purlins up today, had to acro the existing purling up to lift the rafters high enough to get the new purlins in. No idea how I will get a hanger on or what strapping to use. I have 10 more Purlins to do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Surely its just a case of sliding a joist hanger over the new notched purlin before placing it on the rafter, some thing like this

Obviously normally the lip is fixed into brickwork but as the purlin is resting on top oi it with all the associated roof load its not going to go anywhere

Thanks for replying. There are 12 purlins, 8 ends go into walls the rest are on wood A frames. Do you know if the do that sort of bracket 75mm wide, 70mm high before the bend. Also all the hangers would need to be a slightly different height as the space is different at each A frame with the barn being around 200 years old.

Forgot to add these

Looks as if new purlins are staggered either side of old ones so not back to back?
new purlin are attached to old purlins with bolts. From one section to the next section of roof they are staggered.

Are the existing purlins notched or is it actually the trusses that are notched to support the purlin?
