Downpipe bend required for gutter

Hello,

We just bought a house and yesterday I (a new home owner and general no-nothing regarding property ownership and maintenance) was checking the guttering.

I have attached a photo showing a downpipe that doesn't have a bend to take the water away from the house.

The previous owner has come up with a solution (see photo) that has resulted in some water missing the horizontal white halfpipe (correct term?) and running down the side of the wall. Lot's of soil there was very wet and washed away.

To the right of the photo (out of frame, apologies), there is a horizontal pipe partially in the ground the takes the water away in to the canal system.

I would like to connect the downpipe in the photo to the horizontal pipe out of frame.

So my plan would be:

1. Remove the bottom section of the pipe and replace it with a bend
2. connect the bend with the horizontal pipe

I look forward to your responses of approval.

do you know if you have a soakaway anywhere in the garden, that perhaps other pipes are using

what country are you in ?

in the UK, there are some restrictions on putting rainwater into sewers , often either separate drains exist for surface water or you pay extra to do this , I found our neighbours house has soakways for ALL his guttering , but was charged a fee by the water auth. they refunded him and back to when he moved into the house

We are in North West Germany. There is a very extensive drainage canal system running all over this region. It's a very damp region (the ground that is). It's normal for rainwater to be sent it to these canals.

There does appear to be a soakaway opening but I don't think it is used or emptied anymore. Something I need to find out.

Yes , i thought the flag was for Germany -
perhaps soakaways are different in germany , no idea , usually they are not emptied , but Soak away into the ground, at least all theones I no of , and recently had renewed

Well I came up with a temporary solution until I dig a trench and bury the pipe.
