EeePC 900 tr to W98

Would like to get rid of the original Ubuntu (or the like) and substitute for W98. I have a W98 disk, which is the best way please.
 
You uh, realise Win 98 won't even work properly on an Eee, or any other modern machine?
 
Well, I have it working on another machine OK. All I want to do on the Eee is run Flight Sim and a Bridge Game, both work on the other machine.

I'm fairly sure there's a Flight Sim available in Ubuntu is that no good?
 
I'm sure you're right about that but I'm used to my present sim and have the Pilots Handbook for it. I haven't ever been able to find a decent Bridge game. I tried Ubuntu and I'm afraid I prefer the (relative) simplicity of Windows...perhaps I'm getting thick in my old age !
 
This is getting a little complicated now, can't I just format the drive, killing Ubuntu, then install W98
 
Simplest way is to buy an external dvd drive insert the disc and boot from the dvd drive done.

As to whether it will work I don't know. I'm also a little confused why you'd ever consider W98 :lol:
 
Thanks daozen, the reasons I thought about 98 are :...I have a disk...am not using the Eee for anything at all....the flight sim and bridge game both work on another 98 machine....I realise the limitations of the Eee (it will not be frightened by 98!)...I like messing about and saving money !
As to the external CD drive, could I use an external USB drive to load 98
(which I have) and, if so, do I need to do anything about the existing system on the Eee before doing so ?
 
By extrernal USB drive do you mean and external hard drive? Or a USB memory stick?

If you can get the computer to boot from the W98 disc and it recognises your hardware it should give you the option to format the hard drive so you dont need to worry about whats already on the hard drive.

Have you considered an emulator for your games? Like Dosbox? Ubuntu has dosbox within the repositories.

The EEEPC wont be the limitation IMHO. W98 is not supported any longer and is very outdated, any trouble you have will be hard to fix. Some problems I can think of off the top of my head is USB and Sata hard drives, W98 doesn't support these out of the box.

However thats up to you. I'm not trying to dissuade you but it might be more trouble than its worth.
 
Thanks again, it's an ext hard drive I have. Will have a look at Dosbox though.
