I’ve had some major renovation on our house with large RSJs being installed, among other things.
The builders’ left and I’m now getting on with the improvements/repairs I can make myself. One of the jobs is replacing the floorboards they’d ‘fixed’ using smaller metric boards with the correct 6 3/4 inch so they no longer have 1cm+ gaps between them! On lifting the board closest the wall, I’ve discovered the gap between the RSJ and wall above has been plugged with slate shims and no cement. I posted about this before and was advised I should get that filled with sand/cement as best I can. I’m about to start on that but noticed that there are electricaL cables running between the wall and the RSJ (resting on the RSJ)- surely this can’t be right?
Can anyone advise? I’m hoping to plug up the gaps with cement and repair and fix the boards so don’t want to bury these issues, if they’re dangerous or incorrect.
FYI all the work was signed of by building control and a certificate issue by the electrician...
