Hi All,

I am due to get 2 rooms skimmed in a couple of days. If someone could give me advice on the following I would be gratefull

a) What do I need to do with the elec. sockets, if anything at all?

b) One of the ceilings still has a small amount of emulsion on. It is a little flakey in places but for the most part it is almost impossible to get off - is this going to be an issue?

c) How long should I leave the walls before I paint them?

All advice gratefully received.

Cheers

longer socket screws is all you may need, though it makes the job easier if the switch/socket fronts are removed.

we do tend to overboard ceilings to give a more reliable result.

paint the plaster when it goes from a dark wet looking pink, to a pale pink. this will be visually obvious.

thin down the first coat of emulsion, applying a 'mist' coat to the naked plaster.

For socket outlets & light switches, I temporarily put the cables into a terminal block wrapped in insulation tape & shove it into the wall box out of the way; re-terminate the switches after plastering.

The plasterer should look at the condition of any paint to see if it’s sound before skimming, it’s what your paying him for; he will PVA before skimming & this should take care of things unless it's really bad but it will help him if you go over it with a scraper to remove any loose flakes before he arrives.
