End of Adobe Flash and IP Cameras

I need Adobe Flash in order to operate my UCAM 247 IP cameras. It has already been phased out but Google Chrome will absolutely not support it after December 2020.
I don't know if this will affect other IP cameras as well.
Does anyone know about this and what can be done to keep Flash dependant cameras working?
 
Find another browser Firefox maybe and just turn auto updates off.

on another note my Hikvision I can login to via a browser but it also has dedicated software to perform the same thing.

do your camera have software you could install, have you checked the manufacturer website?
 
Unfortunately Firefox is not available for chromebooks and chromebox.
Yes the manufacturer does provide software but it also requires Adobe Flash to operate.
 
Adobe Flash was dead years ago when HTML5 came out.

Cannot remember the last time I saw a Flash Player request.
 
When did you buy these cameras?
As Flash has been on its way out for several years now so purchasing something that relies on flash was a bit daft.

Google for alternative to flash player.
There are some.
 
Although they are now about 5 years old, they are still for sale on Amazon etc.
The spec does not say you must use Flash and my technical knowledge would not have alerted me to check into this aspect.
Google will absolutely stop using Flash in December 2020, so I have until then before I consider buying a replacement. As someone pointed out earlier in the thread I may be able to continue using them via Firefox.
 
Agree with Alba2. I bought mine probably about 7 years ago, but they work perfectly. It would cost hundreds of pounds to replace them, just because Adobe withdraw flash. Why should I have to do that? Not the first time I have reason to hate Adobe.......
 
You want Adobe to continue supporting something you bought seven years ago and wasn't even made by them?
Technology moves on. Flash is obsolete. Your cameras must be getting that way too.
 
Is there any way to log on to the camera directly via its IP address? Use a port scanner, see what is open

"Not made by them"?? Flash was made by them to be embedded in many third-party applications and to make all of those investments worthless at a stroke is irresponsible at best. And as for "technology moves on" and "obsolete" - that is the kind of thinking that has created the environmental disaster we are now facing. If things work well (my cameras do) why on earth would we create another pile of electronic waste (not to mention the expense) just because some third party cannot be bothered. As I said, Adobe has a history of trapping people into their proprietary technology and then demanding more money from them by regularly and deliberately making the technology "obsolete". It's a money-maker for them - no other reason. This is why open systems were invented........
 
If you want to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, why are you replacing the equipment that monitors your cameras?

Keep the PC you bought for the cameras, with the Flash version running at the time, and you can leave them going for ever.

Adobe hasn't stopped Flash working, and they couldn't do so if they wanted.

The only reason for the problem is that you are choosing to mix old and new technologies. Stick with the old, and be happy. The environment will be grateful.
 
I'm not replacing it! I never said I was. If it just continued to run I wouldn't have a problem. But I DO have a problem because the various intermediaries (including Google Chrome browser) are actually saying they are going to explicitly BLOCK Flash because, with no support, they consider it a security risk......

I'd love to just keep on using it until the technology that uses it finally does need replacing (which it will eventually), but I can't. Instead my security is compromised by the immediate loss of CCTV unless I am forced to spend another few hundred pounds that shouldn't be necessary. Maybe you can afford to change your tech every year (I bet you've got an iPhone 12 Pro, mine is an iPhone7!) but I can't.........

End of rant. I'll stop posting now :-)
