Enlarging Pockets for Ceiling Joists

Hi All,
I'm planning on opening out my kitchen and existing joists aren't the correct size for the wider span (going from 145 to 195).
Pic attached of existing pocketed joist - assume there's no issue breaking out existing joist and mortar and slotting new joist in? Looks like I have a good blob of mortar to break out at the top that'll give me the 50mm I need.
