The European Union has decided to scrap regulations for timber quality and packaging sizes in a drive to reduce red tape, the European Commission says.

The "knots in wood" directive had set standards for the European timber trade since 1968......
...In future, standardisation organisations will define rough wood quality for industry.

Is this anything to be concerned about? Will it have any real effect on quality or *gulp* prices?

well, there do need to be recognised standards for quality.

Somebody's got to publish and enforce them.

And they've got to be standardised throughout al the trading countries so we all knowwhat we're buying and selling.

Weights and Measures regulations have been enforced by law for centuries.

I suppose the people who grumble about EU regulation have won an argument for trade self-regulation. Like Estate Agents and Solicitors do.

Without enforced regulation I suppose you can always sue a supplier if he sells you something that's below the standard you've paid for.
