European lamp plug conversion

I have purchased an original lamp from the 1930s from Switzerland which has a black ceramic base where the wiring comes out to reveal a 2 pin flat plug.I took apart the plug and there are 2 black wires.How can I change this to a UK 3 pin plug? It is 240v.Dont know which is live or neutral as I want to know which wires to put in the UK plug?[/b]

is the bulb BC or ES?
does the lamp have a switch?

Hi the bulb is a screw fitting eddison,and it does have a switch for on/off.

then you should use your multimeter to find out which wire goes to the center contact of the holder and connect that one to live and the other to neutral.
