I recently cut back a hedge at the boundary of my property and uncovered this BT-branded junction box:
The reason it has a cut black wire coming out of it is, I think, because this house used to be the show home for the development (15 years ago), and there was an office in the garage during the sale phase. I imagine the wire was for the phones there.
The problem is that the wires for this box are pretty precarious, as they loop untidily towards the pavement. Also, the covering screw was loose, so I tightened it, but I peeked inside first. Lots of insects:
I would like the junction box replaced, and the wires pinned up the (nearby) vertical fence post, so they don't get snagged.
A few questions:

A few questions:
- What is this box called?
- On the assumption that this isn't something I should be doing myself, should I be getting an independent phone tech in to do it, or do I have to go through BT?
- We get landline/broadband through TalkTalk - does this affect the answer above?
