External Rendering onto thermalite any tips??

Hi,

Got to do some external rendering onto a mixture of virgin concrete blocks, old brick work, timber covered with ss mesh and thermalite blocks (not my work honest)

The thermalite blocks are just on the top course (don't ask me why?) but i'm a bit concerned about rendering them due to the high levels of suction.

Should I treat them with anything or fix some ss mesh first or both????

Any tips would be greatly appreciated and worth a beer or 6.
