Hello

I just spent hours to try and figure this out.

Replacing the old fan which dues not have an integrated timer and looked like the first picture .

The timer actually sits in the hallway and looks like the second picture.

I tried to install the new extractor which has an integrated timer but I don't have a switch live wire (I think, could be permanent live?) and after looking online for some time I tried to loop the switch live with the permanent live (third picture with brown wire loop). Still not working.... Any idea how to go about this please?

Also enclosed the instruction wiring.

If anyone has any clue please help! I have wasted so much time on this and really want to avoid rewiring...

Many thanks

If the old fan had a timed overrun feature then there has to be both switched live and permanent live going to the transformer in the hall.

I can't help thinking you're trying to power a 230V fan with 12V.

If you are, I don't think electrical work is for you.

Then you need to get another 12V fan, not a 230V one, otherwise you will have no choice but to change the wiring. Your old fan has 2 conductors running to it from the transformer, your new one needs 3 from the isolator.

As BAS has hinted. Your old fan is a 12volt one. That white box next to the isolator switch is the 12v power supply and will include the timer function.
You have the wrong fan.
Return it and buy a new 12v fan and power supply. You don’t need to rewire anything.
One of these possibly

surely it would be cheaper and easier to fit a simple 12v fan, and use the existing power/timer box, which has some cost to it. I'm assuming the old fan is just clogged with dirt and has noisy bearings. I'd wash it in hot water and oil the bearings after drying if it was mine. Of course all traces of water must be gone before it goes near electricity.

The old design Manrose fans are poor quality and noisy, but cheap.

There must be better ones.

Thank you very much. I obviously have no clue except the shop owner told me it would work on anything. I will buy another fan. As for electrician work not being for me.... This is obviously not my job hence the cry for help!

Indeed. As far as I can make out, the LV100T cannot be bought without the PSU/timer as well. However, if the OP would like to have an identical fan (and keep the new PSU/timer as a spare), there are much cheaper sources than TLC (per TTC's link) - for example, click here .

Kind Regards, John

Unless, of course, that the power supply is faulty. Better to buy the whole thing.

The other fan was half broken but running so it should be OK. I am ordering a 12V one but a little bummed that I wasted money on the other one in bad advice.

As I said, if the OP wants the same fan, it seems he has no choice but to do that. It's a pity that, unlike Manrose, they don't seem to sell the fans and PSU/Timers separately.

Kind Regards, John

Since you bought it on the basis of bad advice from the shop owner, you can presumably take it back for a refund?

Kind Regards, John

Bought the Manrose and now trying to resell the HiB I bought on the cheap to salvage some money.

If anyone interested I am in south west London in Balham. If by coincidence you helped in the thread and may be interested I am happy to offer a better price as thanks.

Thanks again everyone. Lesson well learned for me this weekend, I am no electrician but I am a little bit more knowledgeable after all the time in various forums!

Yes of course if the shop owner told you it would be suitable that forms part of your contact for goods. So if it isn't, they need to give you one that is, or a refund. It's not like you asked some bloke on the street outside. Otherwise they can just tell people the fan is suitable for any wiring and sell more of them.
