Hi all - can’t see a better suited forum for this so hoping it’s fine here. I’m looking to install an air conditioning unit (a proper split unit with a heat pump). I was always of the impression that you can install anything pre-gassed yourself, but I’ve learned that the rules relate to f gas, and to truly be able to install it yourself it has to be HFC free gas such as this one:

Im looking at the installation manual for the above one and the f gas ones and they seem the same - tool free push fit connections that seem totally simple, and the f gas units are far cheaper.

So I’m wondering if anyone knows what the actual f gas rules are and how closely we need to stick to them, and why. Is it just the fact that the f gas is more unsafe and nothing to do with the complexity of the fitting, which as mentioned seem both the same.

The other downside of the non f gas are you can’t seem to get multi room options where various units run to the same heat pump, which adds a lot of cost.

Thanks!

r32 is a lot more safe than r290 i went with r32 and my next one will be a LG twin compressor very quiet
