Faulty wiring from a two way switch or maybe a polterguist?

Hi everyone.

A plea for help! I don't believe in polterguists, so I'm sure that it is my dodgy wiring that is at fault.

I have recently changed over some lighting in our kitchen. We have a double switch that controls (a) two internal pendant lights anfd (b) an external lamp, just outside the kitchen door.

I changed the external lamp. I was unable to use the same wires externally, so I used with I thought was the same wire internally. However, it cannot be as the switch is behaving very eratically.

I am able to operate both internal and external lights from the switches BUT ... strange things are happening ....

1. Switch A on - inside lights on
Switch B off - outside light off

2. Switch A on - inside lights on
Switch B on - outside light off

3. Switch A off - inside lights off
Switch B on - outside light on

4. Switch A off - inside lights off
Switch B off - outside light off

When the switches are in positions 1 and 4, if I switch the light that is currently off, on, the other light that was on goes off !!! So both are not able to be on at the same time.

Can anyone help me to wire these back up correctly? Otherwise I will do the proper thing and call an electrician ... !

Many thanks in advance.

Marmotte
