I have a couple of cheap wooden outdoor chairs that I'm going to repaint with outdoor paint in the hopes of making them last a bit longer. One chair has a bit of a gap where the wood is split slightly (looks like some bark was left on the original timber) but it's not to the stage of coming apart yet. What's best to fill this with before I repaint? I have various types of household adhesives (gorilla glue, PVA, probably epoxy) and if I can avoid buying more stuff that would be great. The gap is only a couple of mm at the widest but runs along the grain for about 8cm.

Probably not worth the effort for cheap furniture, the paint will seep into any cracks ,

I've mixed PVA with sawdust in the past to fill gaps but if you are painting, as opposed to staining, then flexible exterior polyfilla should do the trick.
