Finishing off skirting when architrave is level with wall

Hello

Please see images of work done by builders, they didn't fit the architrave and are only responsible for the skirting, but I think this just looks crap and there has got to be a better way of overcoming this problem.

Many thanks for any suggestions I can put to them or any pics that have overcome a similar problem.

The solution is a Charlie return.....

What you do is cut a 45deg mitre where you want skirting to stop.
Then cut a 45 deg matching mitre on a spare length of skirting, then do a 90 deg cut, the length of which matches the thickness of the skirting.

Glue that little piece to the long length

Then the skirting moilding returns and stops where it meets the wall.

Easy peasy, 10 min job max

Or take the architrave off and fit a deeper one.

Looks more like the architrave is fitted wrong.

Question of taste really isnt it.. but even returned onto itself that much of an edge wouldn't sit well with me. I'd either swop out architrave for deeper.. add to it and bring it flush or just cut the skirts back at a longish angle to fade the edge.

my solution assuming you have a router is screw a bit off spare skirting or timber iff double molded to the back full depth and about 6 inches long lining up exactly with the top and end off the skirting for bearing to run against if required
sand a radius only between the top and side not the face
run a radius router cutter with a bearing only round the sanded area and end
sand the transition between new and old iff required
make sure the cutter is fraction shallow rather than too deep to prevent a step
position near the back off the radius on the architrave what ever looks right art deco style

It simply means do a return of the skirting back to the wall.

Otherwise known as return on itself.


Im not realky sure why your architrave is flush with the plaster -has the wall been over boarded?

You could fit plinth blocks to base.
