I've got a single skin building, wall plate is on and it will have a cold roof.

Where do I position the first joist and the last joist? E.g. How do I create an overhang for drips on the side but also have a place to stick the edge of the ceiling plasterboard?

Front and rear overhang is covered due to my joist length.

You use noggins from the last joist which is just before the internal face of the wall, to support a “flying” rafter according to whatever overhang you want. Google garden room or flat roof overhang noggins or something, should be loads of pics

It helps (fixing wise) to have a full depth joist fixed into the roof joist ends. The end joist can be left long enough to collect the flying overhanging joist. Supplement it with nogg's.
