Hi Group of experts,

I wonder if you could help me? I have been renovating a house with my husband for the past year and recently had a 'recommended' roofer in to replace all the guttering. (whom is apparently meant come back and fix some of the work as some connections have fallen off in the bad rain last week), but i want the advise of all the experts here please.

Three questions :

1) Should the downpipes have all been screwed through to secure in place (pics attached)? (my assumption is not - Pic 2).

2) How can i get the downpipe (on the left from the roof) into the drain (on the right side below the guttering) as per the front-of-house pics under the window? (pic 1)

3) How can i get the rainwater off my pitched roof and into the downpipe below? (pic 3)

Thank you experts.

Claire (a guttering novice).

Where is the drain currently? Also not sure what image 3 refers to as can't see that on image 1.

If the drain is where the downpipe near the stonework is the long downpipe could have come down the join in render rather than being at the other side

Thanks Matlob. The drain is currently next to the front door (where the crazy brickwiork is - in that corner).

The drainpipe originally went down the middle of the house - but it looked an eyesore - so we asked for it to be symmetrical and have two downpipes either side of the house edge - on both sides of the house.

First off, i am just trying to find a way to connect that left downpipe into the drainage somewhow under the window frame to the corner so two pipes go into the drain instead of just the one atm from the pitched roof. Hope that makes sense.

Image 3 is the overside of the house and the rainwater is falling onto the pitched roof and i also wanted that to go into the drain below, but atm there is just a shoe end piece onto the roof and when it rains is just soaking the pitched roof and the wall below it.
Thx

Screwing drainpipe fittings is not standard practice! It shouldn't be needed.

You're going to end up with a handsome bill to extend your underground drainage to the left downpipes or a separate soakaway, or the cheap option will mean you're going to have an ugly pipe running under your downstairs window back to the original drain - which will be more of an eyesore than a downpipe in the original position.

Not sure any reputable roofer was involved in that work on your house.

Thank you all - we have decided to have the drainpipe moved back to where it was before (doh) …in the middle but tucked more in the corner of the rendering and not under the window or in the middle of the brickwork.. as in its current position it’s flooding and the angle will be unsightly!

Thank you! Let’s hope the roofer comes back! Or more money to get someone professional to fix!
