Fitting an outside tap

Hi

I need to get an outside tap fitted in the garden. The back of the house has a bathroom at garden level and a kitchen one floor up. It would seem to make sense to have the tap plumbed in from the bathroom however, I have been told by some plumbers that this is OK and others that this is not possible as the hose will run the bathroom tank water supply dry.

Running the tap from the kitchen manins water supply then will involve running the supply down the side of the house and down into the garden (and so risking freezing in winter or down inside the house which will be very expensive!

Does anyone have any advice at all?!

As long as your bathroom tank is reasonably large, using the tap shouldn't be a problem. It means you will have limited water use, as if the tank empties - you will have to wait until it fills again. But for most garden uses, the amount of water should be sufficient at any one time.

The problem with using the bathroom supply is simply that you will not have much pressure.
The ideal (and usual) thing to do is use the mains.
Running a supply pipe down the outside is not really a problem.
1) lag the exterior run of pipe (obviously)
2) before running the pipe out fit a stop cock on the pipe inside the house and turn this off for the winter.
Cheap-cheerful and it will work properly
