Fixing Bar Shower brackets on tiled wall?

Job for inlaws.. so I have to be careful. Tiled wall, I believe D&D over external garage wall, brick. Usual 2 pipe tails protruding from tile, on 150mm centres.

Looking at the support brackets that slip over the pipe tails, they seem to need to be very flat to the tile, so I don't think Corefix will work, the collar seems too big.

Has anyone tried cutting off the collars? Or what else would you do - I need to get through the bracket base, tile, gap, and into the brick.

I'm a reasonably experienced DIY head, but never had to do this one before. Cheers.

I read that if I use plugs and screws into the tiled wall, the screws might split the tile. Is this untrue?

I've never had that problem Drill deep enough for the plugs to go through the tiles and into the brick.

Ah, OK. The issue is, that as far as I can gather (Not been onsite yet) it's a Dot and Dab plasterboard wall, then tiles. So I really don't know what the best approach is - I don't know how much of a void is behind the plasterboard. I figured the supplied plugs and screws wouldn't reach on to the brick.

I've watched innumerable YouTube videos about this, and there seem to be several schools of thought.

In the end, since it's not my house, I've decided discretion is the better part of valour, and I will defer to a professional. It would be a different thing if it was my own place.

Even a professional will not know until he drills the holes. If he finds they will not be long enough because of the void he would simply get longer screws. But probably the best decision as it's family

Tiles that have voids behind them can indeed split when the screw is tightened. You would be quite unlucky to have that happen with tiles over dot and dab plasterboard, but, yes it could happen. Just make sure that you don't over tighten the screws.
