Fixing stair runner to risers

I'm in the process of fitting a stair runner, waterfall style, and I've got a reasonable amount of tension (but probably not as much as a pro!), but I think it would look better if I could spot fix the carpet to the riser. I think it just needs 3 pins 2-3" above the tread, left middle and right of the runner to pull it into the riser a bit.
However, it's a loop pile, jute backed, wool carpet and I'm struggling to think of a suitable pin that won't be visible. Possibly staples would work, but I only have T50s in the right length, which are rather thick.
Possibly spray adhesive would work, but not sure if there would be good adhesion with the jute backing and could be messy and perhaps seems a bit "bodgy".

A pro will still fit the stair runner with underlay and gripper. Start from the bottom as this helps with tension and bolster into the crease created where the two pieces of gripper on the tread and riser meet.

If you choose to direct fix to the stairs, spray contact adhesive should work, bust keep an eye on tightness over the years.

When pinning, you will still likely get some sort of pinch, the pro's a again will use a electric powered gun to pin where required rather than the old hammer and tack method.

Thanks for replying. All done "properly" with underlay and grippers, knee kicker and bolster.
The trickiest bit was getting the spacing right between the step and riser grippers - and the fact that nearly all guides on the net are practically useless.

ps, had to smile when I took the photo - my phone camera was suggesting it might be a barcode!
