Hi,

I need to re screw the toilet cistern to a wall. However the holes are too big now and the plaster around them isn't great.

How do I re screw the cistern back?

The other problem is screwing in the cold water pipe back to the bottem entry float valve.

I can't seem to re-align cistern properly to screw back the cold water pipe to the float valve.

Any tips on best way forward regarding the above.

Make good the wall, use longer screws into solid wall or fix bracket to good parts of wall.

It's not usually that critical to line up.
Is the downpipe holding the cistern at the wrong height or to the side or if no down pipe have you screwed it to the pan crookedly?

Use a flexible twixt pipe and cistern. Add a check valve if there is not one.

Can I join the cc forum now? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Whats a twixt pipe and why would you fit a check valve?
What a sad world when we are obliged to educate plumbers!

Have I failed the exam for being in the cc forum, because I used the term 'check valve' instead of the term 'stop' valve?

Phew!!! what a relief!!!

The Cc is his Achilles heel. He's obsessed by it (y)
I thought (think) my comment was a joke.

I do not think a secret forum for churning out bigoted plumbers, or somewhere for bigoted plumbers to hatch out secret plots against other members is funny, in the slightest.
Do not forget we have members of that forum telling us about these secret plots they were making about other members.
If it was you that they were plotting against, what would you think about such a forum being allowed and facilitated?

We also have loads of evidence of bigoted (and idiotic) plumbers in this forum.

Suppose you mean it is a brick or block wall, with a drilled hole, plastic plugs in it and screws.

Suppose you mean that having taken the screws out, you find the plugs are now a loose fit

Since the weight is not taken by plaster, which has no strength, but by the bricks or blocks of the wall, the condition of the plaster is not important.

Firstly, verify that the hole is deep enough and wide enough for a screw and plug to be fully inserted, and that it is a drilled hole, not a gaping crater. Perhaps drill it deeper so, say, a 50mm screw will go in, with a plasplug.

Clean out all the dust and loose material with a vac or water spray (let it dry, if you use water).

Procure screws and plugs that are long enough, and some builders' adhesive such as no-more-nails or a cheaper brand. Brown plugs are usually suitable.

Put the nozzle of the adhesive deep into the hole, and fill it with adhesive from the back, so there is no air bubble.

Press the plasplug into the hole, so it is slightly below the finished level of the plaster. Clean off the excess.

Leave it a day to set.

Drive your screw into it. It will not rotate or come loose. As there is no air gap, the expansion of the plug will be transmitted to the bricks or blocks and it will hold firm.

In this case the purpose of the screw is to prevent the cistern wobbling, rather than to take great weight.

its a legal thing.
the C.C is closed to general public , and also no gas advice is allowed on the forums, due to the fact that, if someone gains that advice here, and there is an incident, then DIYNOT, and the one that gave that advice could be liable.
maybe someone might be able to be clearer on this, but that's my take on it.
