Fixings for timber gate post

I need to hang a 6ft by 3 ft tongue and groove gate between a side entrance. I have a 2x4 pressure treated post which I need to attach to a side brick wall from which to hang the gate.

Will a size 7 brown rawl plug and using four equally spaced 5x100mm screws suffice to securely fix the timber post to the brick wall?

Only asking because most of the tutorials I've seen use either masonry bolts/screws or frame fixings and since I already have some brown plugs and 5x100mm screws thought it would achieve pretty much the same result rather than going out and buying some more kit?

Any advise appreciated.
 
If you are going in to hard bricks, then yeah, the 7mm plugs and 5*100s should be ok. Just be aware that they will rust in time.

I would recommend drilling each one at a very slightly different angle. Not absolutely necessary but if one fails, the next will be at an opposing angle.
 
i would use bolts & Nuts with a resin fixing, I have done this 3 times now , for gates
the first time, i used various fixing, and each time they pulled out the wall...

I have fixed both 3x3"'s and also a 4x4"'s post to various walls , Breeze block, and old 1904 bricks

The difference is I used a fostner bit to countersink the wood so the Nuts and washers are below the surface , allowing a gate to be hung and shut
 
Thunderbolts, fixed all my 4x4 posts with them , no plugs or silly resin required .

What if I used some a2 stainless steel screws. These shouldn't rust but would they be strong enough to hold the post once gate has been hung as stainless steel generally not as hard as carbon steel?
