Remember an amusing one from a football manager who was asked his plans for his team. "I've got some irons in the fire, but I'm keeping them close to my chest."

This is from early 80s, can't remember the manager involved.

Gordon Strachan has had a few memorable quotes

Reporter: “Gordon, can we have a quick word please?”
Strachan: “Velocity” [walks off]

Reporter: Gordon, if you were English, what formation would you play?
Strachan: If I was English I’d kill myself!

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan on being attacked by a Celtic fan while playing for Aberdeen at Parkhead in 1980.

It’s always great fun getting attacked. One of the highlights of my career. He got fined £100 for that but they had a whip-round in the pub and he got £200

Not so much a quote, but an apocryphal tale from a Peter Crouch book (any of which are highly recommended, btw).

Crouchie was playing for Stoke City, with Tony Pulis as manager.
Having become comfortably established in the Premier League at this point, some of the senior players were getting a little restless over Pulis' physical and long-ball tactics: they felt they had more of the beautiful game in them.

So, one day after training, one of them raised the possibility of being a little more expansive in their style of play.

Pulis' response, to the waiting changing room?

"Lads: don't kid yourselves. You're bang-average, playing in a fantastic system."

:ROFLMAO:

I liked the footballers wife quote in the Wagatha Christie court case. When the judge was referring to a phone with crucial messages on that had 'accidentally' dropped over the side of a boat, he said to Rebekah Vardy “So that phone is now in Davy Jones' locker”? Vardy replied in all seriousness "Who's he”?

A famous one, again from Peter Crouch.

When asked what he would have been if he hadn't been a professional footballer, he replied "A virgin"

About a former teammate (Robert Prosinecki?):

"He claimed to have no understanding of English: "Track back!" was met with a shrug, and gestures indicating that he didn't know what it meant."

"But, if we won a freekick within shooting range, he'd grab the ball and say "This is mine, lads.""

:ROFLMAO:

I remember the bbc commentator at the 1977 FA Cup Final saying if Liverpool lose today it will seriously affect their chances of winning the treble.

Listening to the Radio the other night a pundit said. "Ipswich never give up"

If they were 3-0 down with 30 seconds to go, I'd bet money on then pulling it back"

They do talk rubbish
