Hello

I have a Honeywell Galaxy 2-20 which uses wireless PIRs and sends alarm notifications via a telephone line. I am interested in

a) being able to control the unit remotely (eg on an iPhone or virtual keypad)
b) receiving text (and possibly email/call) messages on alarm (and possibly set/unset) notifications

Looking around I have seen a GSM dialer that only seems to send messages/calls but does not allow other communication (such as setting/unsetting) with the G2-20 unit. Also, I have seen an LCE ethernet module that can work with SelfMon.

Has anyone set this up or had any experience of this or configuring their G2-20 to remote dial?
If so, can you kindly recommend a unit/module and any costs setting up and messaging.

I'd offer advice, but I am biased, as I designed the LCE module. I don't think there's currently any other device that will offer keypad app based control. You could do something with a generic GSM dialler module that has relay control to set and unset via keyswitch input. This wouldn't give detailed alarm info though. I don't think it's worthwhile trying to do anything with the onboard pstn.

Thank you for responding GalaxyGuy. Your involvement in the development of the LCE module is a big plus as you are knowledgeable. I sense that you are very objective, so I will take your word as gospel. The limitations of the GSM dialer are clearly apparent. The main feature that I see is that the GSM dialer does not have to rely on the internet or a landline. So, we have the LCE module as the first choice. I have a few questions:

a) can the LCE module's virtual be operated on iPhone by an App? Can you provide more details or a link to more information?
b) Do you know where I can get a LCE module at a reasonable price?
c) Do you part of, work with or know the people behind SelfMon? If so, is the SelfMon platform reliable?

If it's any help I've had the LCE module on my G2-12 for a few years now, and it works perfectly.
There is an iphone/ipad app, which I use.
Google Selfmon, which should take you to SM Alarms.

Hi alan333. Thank you for your input. Your contentment with the LCE module is making me lean more in that direction. Just seen the iPhone app which is exactly what I am looking for.

I notice for G2 panels the iPhone app requires firmware version 1.53+ or above. When I look at my panel it says "C020-01-C V1.50". Do you or anyone know how can I check if the factory firmware (V1.50) is being used on the panel or if the software was upgraded on installation?

Hi, found how to get the software version. Look under menu 23 "Display Version".

Sorry for late reply. I cant help with your specific question but my panel is version 1.52 if it's any help. I'm sure SM Alarms will be able to help :)

Hello

I went for an LCE-01 module to make use of ethernet functionality with an iPhone. Before connecting it up I wanted to check a few things.

Enclosed is a picture of my Galaxy G2-20. It has a C020-01-C PCB with a Mk7 keypad and V2 wireless receiver connected.
Currently the keypad and V2 wireless receiver wires are joined and are connected to the PCB as follows

2 Black leads (-)
2 Red leads (+)
2 Green leads (A)
2 White leads (B)

My questions are as follows:

Question 1

From what I can see the panel does not have a RS485 bus header. Is this correct?

Question 2

Assuming there is no RS485 bus header I was going to connect the ethernet module using flying leads
on the panel screw terminals. The ethernet momdule has a Red (+12V), Black (0V), White (A) and Yellow (B) leads.
Am I correct in connecting the leads so that there are now three leads joined and connected as follows?

2 Black leads (-) + Black (0V)
2 Red leads (+) + Red (+12V)
2 Green leads (A) + White (A)
2 White leads (B) + Yellow (B)

Question 3

In the images of the G2-20 PCB there appears to be two 12V Auxilliary outputs. One is currently being used for the keypad and wireless receiver.
What is the second one for? Can I connect the ethernet Black (OV) to the other auxilliary output (-) and ethernet Red (12V) to the other auxilliary output (+) instead?
Or is it better to join the power wires to the existing ones as suggested in Question 2.

Question 4

In the image of the G2-20 PCB there is a 2-way header RS485 termination. What is this for?

Best regards

Embee
