garage conversion??

hi,
i bought a piece of land a few years ago at the back of somebodies garden and built a garage on it, it has road access, it also has an independant electrical supply to it. Now I khow you can convert an exsisting garage into a "living space" without planning permission HOWEVER could i do the same to this as it is no longer is part of the surrounding dwellings? (im not too sure how clear ive made myself)

Best advice would be run it past your local planning authority, depends on what you intend to do ? office, games room etc or do you intend to install a kitchen/sleeping accommodation ie a separate dwelling/annex in any case it would constitute a change of use so get it direct from the people that matter.
