I need to replace my garage door.
I have the chance to buy a garage door cheap 14ft wide
however my width available is only 13ft and can't be easily changed.
Is it possible to have the garage door so I can mount it behind the opening
and the door will open up and over without protruding outwards.
I have more head room inside the garage.

It seems the fully retractable garage doors still move outwards before going in.

My up and over garage door's bottom edge comes out as the top slides in, and is parked with about a foot sticking out. Most are like this, look closely at your own mechanism.

After a bit more searching I think what I needed is a fully recessed counter balance garage door mechanism.
Only problem is I can't seem to find that in the UK.
Unless anyone knows different.
It will not protrude outside at any point in the operating. Like if the door opened straight onto the street.

Another vote here for motorised roller shutter door. They're not super secure but a lot better than an up and over, great in the pouring rain when you zap the thing from the street and just drive in...... :)

My vote is for the motorized roller shutter door! This will be a much more convenient option.
