Gas consumption really high?

Hey!
We moved into our new house 6 months ago and over the past month we've noticed our bills seem to be really high.
Since moving in we've used approx
1116m3 gas. Our electric seems quite high as well but I was expecting that with an electric shower & hob.
I'm not sure if there is an issue and I need to call our energy supplier to check things, if I just have unrealistic expectations or it's just down to a very old boiler.
We have a myson economist and I'm guessing about 30yrs old
We have the boiler set on timer to come on 3 times a day for around an hour each time, it's never turned on at any other times and we have no other appliances.
Meter readings all match the smart meter.
Ive kept an eye on the smart meter the last few days and I've seemed to figure out that while idle the pilot used around 0.38kwh & while the boilers on it uses around 6.71kwh. At the end of the day we're using 42kwh, but I'm guessing we should be using more like 30kwh
Smart meter seems to say usage is about what I would expect until around 7/8pm
5:00pm - 19.5kwh
Boiler switches on at 6:30
7:00pm - 25.5kwh
Boiler switches off at 7:30
7:30pm - 30.86kwh
8:00pm 31.19kwh

Checked mine and in last 6 months from 7 Nov 20 I've used about 1320 m3, so on that basis yours seems pretty good. Don't forget that's the coldest 6 months of the year. I live in a 4-bed semi, gas hob in addition to the heating. I leave mine on 24/7, just controlled by the roomstat, set at 20°C, which I hardly ever touch.
 
This was ours for April. 3 bed house, just two of us living here, electric oven, gas hob, gas water and heating.

Do you have a thermostat? If not that's not surprising usage during the winter.

A thermostat is there to turn the heating off not on...

So a smart meter reads the pilot :eek: Another reason for me not to get one with my Potterton Kingfisher :ROFLMAO:

No the timeclock is there to turn the heating on you don't need a thermostat for that

The thermostat turns the heating off when the air temp is reached. If not it'll just keep heating past the desired temp and waste gas.

Thats in the context of this money saving discussion of course :)
 
I've used 831m3 gas in last 6 months, with Baxi boiler and mostly fully insulated bungalow. Heating and hot water is on from 6am til about 11pm all winter.
So my guess is, old boiler costing you more money, but how well is the house insulated?

My summer gas bill is about £20 a month for hot water, and most of that is showers. So if your gas bill is still high once the heating is turned off, that might be a sign that the boiler is not really much good!

If the timeclock is off, nothing happens. If it's on, the boiler starts/stops via the roomstat.
