Hello,

Having some roof work done. Scaffolds are up so looking (in addition to various work on the roof) to get a liner put in my front chimney by the roofers.

It will be a single skin liner for a gas fire. Won’t be used for other fuel types. The old Gas fire was disconnected before I bought the house... the chimney is pre-1900. No liner. Just brick.

Don’t know what fire I want yet. My question is what would be the best generic size to have fitted to cover my bases in relation to the widest range of available Gas fires?

I understand that most are good with 5” or 125mm. But some need up to 7”.

5” 6” or 7”. Or 125, 150 or 175mm.

Does it really matter due to available flue Gas boxes, fireplace cowls, resizing adaptors etc? Or is bigger always better?

Also, can the roofers sign off the work with BC on completion? They are not going to be fitting the fire obviously!

Thanks.
