I have a light socket which has constant 120 VAC power. Using an indoor halogen lamp, the lamp illuminates rarely only if jostled. Replacing with a different brand incandescent lamp solves the problem. Is there some condition that would cause this? Perhaps a lamp geometry issue? Thanks for any help.

hi, check that the two bulbs are the same at the connection end, if they are the problem may be in the power of the halogen lamp if the connections are dirty or corroded.

may also be the connections are spring loaded and one is slightly stuck

most likely worn/stuck contacts in the holder in combination with slightly different connector shapes on the bulbs.
